Hula dancing is to almost tell a story or represent movements of nature. Like trees swaying in the wind, or like fishing swimming smoothly in the ocean. Hula dancing has a smooth "flow" and the movements are extremely fluid. The Hawaiian Goddess Laka separated her dancing into 2 groups:
- Olapa (Agile ones) - This group represented the younger generation that has more energy and dances with more energy.
- Ho'o-paa (Steadfast ones) - This group represented the elders that had less energy and that sang and played musical instruments.
